What is Mineral Water?

Natural mineral water is water that comes from underground surface water sources that are protected from contamination, have natural purity, and minimal production processes, generally only in the form of microorganism filtration to ensure its safety without changing its original mineral content.

The process includes distillation, deionization, or reverse osmosis (RO), where water is forced through a semipermeable membrane to filter out minerals and contaminants. Demineralized water is commonly used in medical contexts due to its purity.

Difference between Mineral and Demineralized Water

Here are some differences between mineral and demineralized water:

1. Source: Mineral water comes from natural groundwater while demineralized water comes from various sources (groundwater or surface water) that have been treated.

2. Production process: Mineral water undergoes minimal processing, usually only filtering to remove contaminants, while demineralized water undergoes further processing, such as reverse osmosis, distillation, and deionization.

3. Mineral content: Mineral water contains dissolved minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, and sodium. Demineralized water contains very few minerals or even no minerals at all.

4. Taste: Mineral water has a variety of tastes, depending on the mineral content of the water. Demineralized water is predominantly tasteless or bland.

5. Use: Mineral water is generally consumed to meet daily water intake requirements, while demineralized water is generally used on an industrial, medical, and laboratory scale that requires pure water.

 

The choice of mineral or demineralized water for daily needs can be adjusted to the needs and health conditions of the body. However, before consuming bottled water, always check the label and ensure the water is clean, colorless, and odorless.
